It is official now that The Supreme Judicial Court has approved the Attorney General’s petition for the November 2016, election, that (if passed) would legalize, regulate and tax marijuana and related products.
Chief Justice Ralph D. Gants writting for a unanimous court, stating that the Court “conclude[s] that her summary of it is fair.”
The SJC went on to clarify the petition title and "yes" statement to read:
“Legalization, Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana"
“A YES VOTE would allow persons 21 and older to possess, use, and transfer marijuana and products containing marijuana concentrate (including edible products) and to cultivate marijuana, all in limited amounts, and would provide for the regulation and taxation of commercial sale of marijuana and marijuana products.’”
When you get out to vote in the fall you will have a choice as to how to vote; a no vote would maintain the status quo, a yes vote would do as stated above.
It is important to remember that a yes vote does not mean that you are advocating the use of marijuana, but simply that you support the regulation and taxation of an already billion dollar business.
A no vote would keep this business unregulated and untaxed. Prohibition in the 1920s did little to stop the use, sale and transfer of alcohol; however it did foster a criminal empire that continues to exist today. It is time to regulate and tax "the Marijuana."
