Required Parent Education Programs (Parenting classes)
You may attend an in person program in any county of the Commonwealth.
Each parent must attend a separate program (or program date) from the child's other parent (check with the individual program for details). On-Line options are only available with a Judge's permission: Parent Education Programs are required to be completed in person. However, an exception may be made by the court through a "Motion to Waive Attendance at a Parent Education Program." These are at the Judges discretion and must be supported by a good reason. The Motion to Waive Attendance at a Parent Education Program must be filed by the party (or his/her Attorney) seeking a waiver, after a hearing where the party requesting the waiver will appear and explain to the judge why they can not attend in person. The reason the party is unable to participate in a program in person must be included in the motion. Examples of reasons the judge may grant this motion are situations such as: incarceration, extended hospitalization or disability, extended military service, or residence outside of Massachusetts, or other very good cause. If the judge determines attendance in person at a Parent Education Program is not possible. KidCare for Co-Parents Interactive DVD available statewide ONLY with Judicial Approval following approval of your Motion to Waive Attendance at a Parent Education Program.
Availability is limited you should schedule 6-8 weeks (or more) in advance. Programs change without notice, the following is provided as a resource for the public. |
Probate and Family Court Standing Order"Parties must register with an approved provider within sixty days (60) days of service of the original complaint upon the original defendant and attend the next available session." |
